As one of the top running backs in the nation for the 2020 recruiting cycle, Alabama tailback Roydell Williams saw plenty of action his sophomore year for the Crimson Tide. He tallied 284 rushing yards and a touchdown last year, before his season was cut short due to suffering a knee injury against the New Mexico State Aggies. The knee needed to be surgically repaired and Williams rehabbed in the off-season to get things back up to speed.

In his recent press conference, the 5-foot-10, 212-pound tailback discussed the recovery process and the things he’s improved on this season. You can listen to the audio in the YouTube video below from 2:47 to 3:08 or just read the transcribed quote below.

“You know, just coming off the injury. Downstairs they’ve done a great job–the training staff. Getting my speed back up. Being able to cut. Being comfortable cutting on this leg. It’s just been very good to be out there. And I’ve been getting comfortable with the offense and stuff. So, it’s been good,” Williams said.

This season in eight games, Williams has 31 carries for 147 rushing yards and one touchdown. As a receiver, he’s hauled in three catches for 17 yards. His best performance thus far came against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, when he had eight carries for 58 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Williams was rated as the No. 10 running back in America for the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus Rankings. He played his high school football for Hueytown High school located in Hueytown, Alabama–the same team that produced New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston.

Williams enjoyed a prolific career there, finishing with three straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons. He finished his career with 5,929 rushing yards, 84 rushing touchdowns, and 92 total touchdowns. He chose the Alabama Crimson Tide over offers from Florida, Florida State, and Kentucky.
