After the Raiders-Eagles game this afternoon, Henry Ruggs and DeVonta Smith recreated a celebration they used to do while at Alabama.

The two run towards each other, leap in the air, and high five in mid air.

Check it out below.

The Raiders won the game 33-22. DeVonta Smith hauled in five catches for 61 yards and no touchdowns. Ruggs hauled in four catches for 24 yards, while bringing in no touchdowns. He also had a seven-yard run on the afternoon.

Ruggs and Smith were both teammates for the Alabama Crimson Tide. The two grew rather close while in Tuscaloosa and they talked about that this week.

“We became close… and that relationship will never die,” Ruggs said. When DeVonta Smith won the Heisman Trophy at Alabama, his former teammate Henry Ruggs was one of the first people to call him and congratulate him.

The two former Alabama greats were roommates while playing for the Crimson Tide.

Former Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs

Many had pegged Ruggs for a breakout season in the 2021 season and he has delivered on that thus far.

So far, he’s already hauled in over 400 receiving yards, and we’re not even close to the midway point of the NFL season. Last year for his entire rookie year, he hauled in 452 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns for the entire season. The former Alabama standout could eclipse those marks in less than half of the amount of time in 2021.

Ruggs displayed his world-class speed during his rookie season and showed flashes of his potential, but did not meet the lofty expectations set for him by the Raiders’ brass when they selected him 12th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Still, his rookie season had some very impressive stats.

Raiders fans are hoping Ruggs continues to grow more and more as a receiver each and every day.

DeVonta Smith college career

DeVonta Smith had a monster 2020 season and was a big part of Alabama going undefeated and winning the national championship. Smith’s strong play and impressive stats earned him the 2020 Heisman Trophy. Alabama head coach Nick Saban does not believe that there could have been a more deserving player for the award.

He spoke a few months ago about why he was so excited for Smith.

“Well, I was excited for Smitty,” Saban said when asked how exciting it was to see his Alabama star win the Heisman. “I talked about competitive character earlier. I don’t know that we’ve had three players in the program over the 14 teams we’ve been a part of here that have had better competitive character, was a better leader on the team, or set a better example on and off the field for what you want to see people do for an opportunity to be successful.

“So, in every way, as a player, in his production, his performance, the kind of person he was, the kind of character he had, you always root for guys that do all those things exactly right. You’re so happy for them when they get some kind of positive recognition because of what they were able to accomplish.”

Smith played sparingly over 2017 and 2018 in his first two years with Alabama. In 2019, he broke out with 68 receptions for 1,256 yards and 14 touchdowns. Last season, Smith hauled in 117 receptions for 1,856 yards and 24 total touchdowns in his Heisman Trophy-winning season.
