In a 41-24 victory over Georgia on Saturday to win the SEC title, Alabama quarterback Bryce Young made quite the argument that he should win this year’s Heisman Trophy. His teammate Will Anderson sure thinks so.

“In my opinion, it is — Mr. Heisman himself,” Anderson told CBS reporter Jamie Erdahl after the game. “Did you see what he did tonight? Did you see what he did tonight? That’s a Heisman.”

“All day, baby. All day,” added Phidarian Mathis, Alabama defensive lineman.

Young finished Saturday’s game 26-for-44 with 421 yards and four total touchdowns. Three of the scores came through the air, while one came on the ground. His touchdown passes went for 67, 55 and 13 yards.

The sophomore quarterbacks’ numbers on the season rival the last three quarterbacks to win the Heisman — LSU’s Joe Burrow in 2019 and both Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield from Oklahoma in 2018 and 2017, respectively.

Anderson is receiving some Heisman hype himself this season, as he entered Saturday’s game with 86 tackles and 14.5 sacks on the year. The linebacker added six additional stops, two tackles for loss and a sack against Georgia.

Tide celebrate second straight SEC title

Following the win, there was no shortage of excitement from the Alabama players.

“It feels great,” Anderson said. “This is a dream come true. I love it here. Roll Tide.”

“It feels so good,” Mathis added. “I love everybody on the team. We’re going to keep stacking. Gotta go back to work.”

To Mathis’ point, Alabama has more work in front of them. With the win, they earned their seventh trip to the College Football Playoff, which will be finalized on Sunday afternoon. Georgia and Cincinnati are presumably joining them in the playoff, while Michigan will take the final spot should they defeat Iowa in the Big Ten Championship game on Saturday night.
