Syncere Massey was committed to Arizona State for months.

All that changed in the span of a few hours.

The three-star defensive lineman from Cedar Hill (Texas) picked up an offer Monday from Texas Tech, which just hired former Cedar Hill coach Joey McGuire.

Massey announced he was decommitting from the Sun Devils less than two hours later. And then about 45 minutes after that, he announced his committment to the Red Raiders.

“Just talked it over with my parents and twin sister and I am (decommitting) from Arizona state university and opening my recruitment back up,” Massey originally tweeted.

While he did not immediately commit to the Red Raiders after announcing the news, Massey pinned his tweet announcing his offer from Texas Tech.

And Dyson also quote-tweeted Massey’s decommitment announcement and said “y’all thought we was done?”

Peoples also hyped up the potential commitment, alerting his followers that a third commitment was coming at 9:30 p.m. Central Time.

Syncere Massey was one of Joey McGuire’s many moves on his first day on the job

McGuire has spent his first day on the job working the recruiting trail, and has made his old stomping grounds as his top focus.

Cedar Hill teammates three-star cornerback Jalon Peoples and three-star defensive lineman Harvey Dyson III both committed to the Red Raiders in the span of an hour Monday. Like Massey, Dyson received his offer from Texas Tech on Monday.

Syncere Massey is the No. 1267 overall player in the nation, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He is the 12th commit in the Texas Tech class.

Arizona State is now down to five commits in the 2022 recruiting cycle. Earlier in the day, Springfield (Ore.) Thurston three-star tight end Jacob Newell had flipped from Nevada to the Sun Devils to give them six. Arizona State is struggling to earn recruitments due to a current NCAA investigation into potential recruiting violations.

McGuire spent 14 seasons as the head coach of Cedar Hill, finishing with a 141-42 record and three state championships.
