Tatum (Texas) three-star defensive lineman CJ Fite announced his decommitment from Arizona State on Monday. He was previously pledged to the Sun Devils since July 31.

Fite is the No. 1,318 overall prospect and No. 139 defensive lineman in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 224 player in Texas.

On3 rates Fite higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Even though Fite is not rated in the 2023 On300, he is the No. 223 player in Texas.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank GOD for giving me the ability to play this game and passion for it,” Tatum wrote in a statement published to social media. “Next, I would like to say thanks to all my family, friends, coaches and Tatum community for their continued support throughout this process. A BIG shoutout to Coach Rodriquez and Coach Clairborne for their honesty and transparency in it all! After certain circumstances and situations and some deep thought and consideration, I have decided to decommit from Arizona State Football! It is in my best interest at this point to explore other options at this time to ensure that I make the BEST decision for me.

“I also cannot leave out all the members of the ASU staff and fans of the Sun Devil Nation that welcomed me into the family. I would appreciate your continued support in moving forward in choosing a fit for me! My recruitment is 100% open!!”

Fite’s decision comes after Arizona State hired Oregon offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham as its head coach this weekend. The Sun Devils’ 2023 recruiting class now contains seven commitments, including five three-stars and two unranked prospects.

Arizona State’s group is currently No. 119 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 12 in the Pac-12. The group is led by Little Elm (Texas) three-star safety Chase Davis, the No. 797 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus.

A 6-foot-1, 282-pound prospect, Fite has an On3 NIL Valuation of $8K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
