Arkansas received good news Friday afternoon when 2023 in-state four-star Ashdown tight end Shamar Easter announced his commitment to the Razorbacks.

Easter made the announcement in a school event and had the Arkansas coaching staff attending the announcement via Zoom. The video was made available by the Ashland School District twitter account.

“Everybody’s been asking me about where I was going to go. And then everyone asked me about if I was going to Arkansas and I just had one response.” Shamar Easter paused to take off his hoodie, revealing an Arkansas logo on his shirt with Razorbacks head coach Sam Pittman’s catch phrase “YES SIRRR” printed across the front.

The announcement got a hearty “YES SIRRR” from Pittman who threw his hands up in celebration.

“Ain’t this awesome” Pittman said over Zoom after the commitment. “We need a tight end but most importantly we need you….Put it out to the world, we’re proud of you, put it out there.”

Easter becomes the first 2023 commitment for the Razorbacks. He joins a tight end room that currently features eight tight ends on the roster, four of which are freshmen or redshirt freshmen.

On3 rates the 6-foot-5 Shamar Easter as the No. 37 overall prospect in the 2023 class. Easter is a three-sport athlete. As a sophomore, he averaged over 20 yards per catch last season and had 8 touchdowns.

Since Pittman’s arrival, the Razorbacks have been making waves on the recruiting trail. In the 2021 class, the Razorbacks landed key commitments from four-star wide receiver Ketron Jackson, four-star athlete AJ Green as well as four-star offensive line transfer Ty’Kieast Crawford. In the 2022 class, the Razorbacks hold key commitments from four-star Michigan safety Myles Rowser and have locked down the state, landing three four-star in-state prospects in E’Marion Harris, Andrew Chamblee and Quincy McAdoo. The Razorbacks also landed three-star in-state defensive lineman Nico Davillier, who was highly coveted.

What does the 2021 season hold for Arkansas

In Pittman’s first season, the Razorbacks went 3-7, but played came within one score of LSU, Missouri, and Auburn. This offseason, Arkansas is replacing quarterback Feleipe Franks and wide receiver Mike Woods but return wide receivers Trey Knox and Treylon Burks and running back Trelon Smith.

Defensively, the Razorbacks return safety Jalen Catalon, who received All-SEC First Team honors last season. Other key defensive contributors will be cornerback Hudson Clark, defensive line transfers John Ridgeway, Tre Williams and Markell Utsey. Linebackers Bumper Pool and Grant Morgan are expected to be impact seniors for the Razorbacks.
