Arkansas batter Robert Moore might have cost himself a hit against Ole Miss after signaling himself safe before reaching base and missing. Ole Miss shortstop Jacob Gonzalez made an incredible play to scoop up the ground ball running the opposite direction before gunning down Moore at first base. Moore slowed slightly on his base-running by picking up his arms to signal himself safe before getting called out.

The officials reviewed the play after Arkansas challenged and replay showed that Moore’s final step just barely missed the base — dragging his toe into the base after the ball was already caught. The play resulted in the second out of the inning, as Arkansas failed to get a hit.

Luckily for Moore and Arkansas, the mistake was a minor one that didn’t matter after Brady Slavens crushed a home run to center field to open the fifth inning. With Arkansas back on top in the game, 2-1, the Razorbacks continue their fight to come back and beat Ole Miss in two straight games.

While Moore and Arkansas is solely focused on winning and surviving Wednesday night, Moore had a fantastic piece of news delivered to him earlier in the day. Moore was named the 2022 Rawlings Gold Glove winner at second base — the first Gold Glove recipient in Arkansas history.

On defense this year, Moore had only committed two errors in 257 chances with a fielding percentage of .992. On the offensive side, he is tied for first in walks for Arkansas with 41 and third in runs scored with 48.

Replay factored in a second time in a much bigger way later in the game, as a play that resulted in a double for Arkansas led to a controversial replay where fans were split on the decision. The play was ultimately upheld as there was no evidence to overturn the call according to official review, but the run scoring on the next at-bat left many Ole Miss fans upset with the decision.
