Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman joined the SEC Network crew Saturday morning to preview his Hogs’ matchup with Texas A&M later in the day. You can read his full comments below from his appearance on the show, where he addressed KJ Jefferson’s dual threat abilities, a need to improve on defense, and a recap of how his team responded in practice this week.

First, Pittman addressed Jefferson and revealed that he plans to use him in some designed runs to take advantage of that part of his QB’s game.

“Last week, the week before against South Carolina, we said: he’s gotta touch the ball in the run game and we have to design runs for him. We have to do that today. He throws the long ball as good as any quarterback in the country. He also runs the ball as good as any quarterback in the country. So we need to make sure we use all his athletic ability today in order for us to have a chance to win.”

Then, Pittman was asked how his team responded in practice this week given the frightening start to the Missouri State game in which Arkansas got down 17-0 in the first half. Of course, they ultimately responded and won the game. But that sort of start was unacceptable in Pittman’s eyes. At least his team won’t have big heads now, he says.

“Well it’s almost a perfect storm to be honest with you. You know, it’s hard to get a big head when you’re down 17 to a team that everybody in the country thinks you’re much better than. So I think it was good for us. We were fortunate enough to win but I think it’s good for us. We can really go out there and have the attention of the kids. I like our team, I think we have a mature team.”

And that’s all from Sam Pittman. Razorback fans are hoping he’s telling the truth and the level of play this week will be much better than last.
