Tallahassee (Fla.) Florida State University School two-sport athlete Tre Donaldson is taking an official visit to Auburn this weekend.

Donaldson committed to Auburn in August, and will play point guard on the basketball team and defensive back on the football team.

He is a consensus four-star recruit in both sports.

When he committed in August, Tre Donaldson told On3’s Chad Simmons it was his visit in June made him seriously consider playing for the Tigers.

“The culture was right for me,” Donaldson said. “I love what they do in the SEC. I told both coaching staffs about my decision last week and they were excited about it. It was a process and I was even surprised by Auburn at first, but I know I found the school for me.”

Where Donaldson fits in the Auburn football recruiting class?

Tre Donaldson is only one of 11 recruits currently committed to Auburn in the 2022 cycle. The class is ranked near the bottom of the SEC, which is abnormal for the Tigers.

Three commits land in the 2022 On300: Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt-Trussville athlete Omari Kelly, Rockwall (Texas) Rockwall-Heath wideout Jay Fair and Lanett (Ala.) High defensive lineman Caden Story.

While the class is small and has plenty of room for improvement, there are also some really good players like Donaldson in the mix.

Lawrenceville (Ga.) Archer safety Caleb Wooten is the only other defensive back recruit currently in the class.

Where Tre Donaldson fits in the Auburn basketball recruiting class?

Tre Donaldson is the only Auburn commit in the 2022 recruiting class at the moment. But the Tigers will add to that over the coming months.

And Bruce Pearl‘s recent success on the recruiting trail, Donaldson is likely to be joined by some high-profile names.

In this past cycle, Pearl grabbed Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek power forward Jabari Smith as his lone high school recruit. Smith is the No. 6 overall recruit in the 2021 On3 Top 100.
