Robert Griffin III critical of Auburn's coaching staff after confusion with Robby Ashford, Holden Geriner

Auburn football just can’t seem to catch a break. Coming off last weekend’s miserable home loss to Penn State, the Tigers turned in the best quarter of their season in the first vs. Missouri. Third-string quarterback Robby Ashford brought a new spark to the offense, specifically the running game, after Auburn struggled mightily in that department a week ago.

However, Missouri came back and tied things up at halftime. Then, in the third quarter, Ashford, ever the team player, injured himself while throwing a downfield block. After exiting the game, Ashford was seen throwing the ball around and loosening up ahead of the next possession. It appeared Bryan Harsin was even about to send him in on the ensuing possession. But he decided to yank him back to the bench and send freshman Holden Geriner out instead. Just pandemonium for the Tigers.

Former Heisman winner Robert Griffin III was one of the commentator’s for the game and let Auburn and Harsin have it after all of the Ashford confusion.

“Yeah, doesn’t seem like anybody really knows what’s going on at quarterback right now for Auburn, not even the coach or the players,” Griffin said.

Just a rough couple of possessions. With Robert Griffin III capping it off with that criticism.

Ashford re-enters game

After Missouri booted the ball back to Auburn with roughly 12 minutes left in the game and the score still tied at 14-14, Tigers starting quarterback Robby Ashford re-entered the game after leaving for several possessions due to an injury he suffered while throwing a downfield block.

When the Auburn offense took the field following the punt, Ashford returned under center. Not to much success, though, as the Tigers produced a swift three-and-out and punted it right back to Missouri. Perhaps some lingering troubles there for Ashford. Going to need him to gut it out for Auburn to win this one.
