The attorney for Auburn quarterback T.J. Finley confirmed an AL.com report clarifying his arrest on Thursday on a charge of attempt to elude.

His attorney’s statement confirmed that Finley turned himself in after authorities issued a warrant for traffic violations and “a misunderstanding.”

“The charges pending against my client, T.J. Finley, are the result of traffic violations and a misunderstanding,” Finley’s attorney’s statement reads, via Tom Green. “The charges are in the process of being handled in Municipal Court within the City of Auburn as all traffic citations are. As soon as T.J. learned of the charges, he turned himself in and has been released on a bond he signed for himself. His first day of football camp with Auburn University has been a success.”

The traffic violation is reportedly due to the quarterback riding a moped without a helmet.

TJ Finley inks NIL deal with Amazon

Finley signed a historic NIL deal with Amazon, which he announced on Tuesday, two days before his arrest. He signed on with Amazon Fashion, which is where his custom clothing line is sold with up to 26 pieces so far.

Finley announced the news in a paid partnership on Instagram. In his Instagram post, the Auburn quarterback shared he helped sign the deal through Dreamfield. Dreamfield is the NIL deal-making platform founded by former Florida State quarterback McKenzie Milton and former Miami quarterback D’Eriq King.

Finley is currently in the middle of a quarterback battle at Auburn with Texas A&M transfer Zach Calzada. He finished last season as the starting quarterback, coming in for former Tigers quarterback Bo Nix. The Ponchatoula, Louisiana native posted 827 yards, six touchdowns and one interception in nine games played.

At LSU in 2020, Finley threw for 941 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions as the Tigers worked through a QB carousel.
