On3 Consensus four-star receiver Matthew Golden of Houston Klein Cain has become a hot target for recruiters ever since he decommitted from TCU 21 days ago.

The Texas Longhorns have made Golden a top target, and he’s scheduled to take an unofficial visit to Austin this upcoming weekend. He is also hoping to take an official visit to Austin sometime in December. But it appears the Longhorns now have some serious competition to land Golden.

Golden tweeted Monday morning he had picked up an offer from the Baylor Bears. Golden said he picked up the offer from Baylor assistant and running backs coach Justin Johnson.

The Bears are another team that has been trending with Golden since his decommitment. And now that they’ve gone all-in with the offer, the competition to land him has gotten harder.

“I’ve been talking to Coach Dave Aranda every day,” Golden said recently. “He just told me how much he liked my game. I talk to a lot of Baylor coaches every day.”

Golden also has a serious interest in making an official to LSU should the next coach show interest. The current recruiters in Baton Rouge did extend an offer to Golden on Nov. 4.

“I’m planning to visit LSU,” he said. “I’m waiting until their new head coach gets in. I talk to their staff every day.”

Matthew Golden is ranked as the No. 231 player and the 39th best receiver in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3 ranks Matthew Golden higher than others in the industry. He is the No. 71 player overall in the newly updated On300, the No. 8 receiver and the 20th best player in the Lone Star State.

TCU receivers coach Malcolm Kelly being retained by the new Horned Frogs’ head coach will be a determining factor if they want to get back into the race to land Golden.

Golden plans to decide and sign in December.
