Baylor is putting it on Oklahoma State in the first half of the Big 12 Championship Game. After racing out to a 14-3 lead, the Bears used a perfect pass from Blake Shapen to extend their lead over the Cowboys.

On 3rd and Goal from the 13 yard-line, Shapen put the ball on a rope into the hands of Tyquan Thornton. Additionally, Thornton made sure Shapen’s perfect pass didn’t go to waste — dragging his feet and reeling in the football.

Not only did the pass extend Baylor’s lead, but it also kept Shapen’s pursuit of perfection going. The quarterback hasn’t thrown an incompletion yet against the Oklahoma State defense — currently 14 for 14 for 128 yards and three touchdowns.

Oklahoma State came into the game with delusions of grandeur — hoping for a shot at the College Football Playoff. If they want to keep their dreams alive, the Cowboys will have to regain momentum from Baylor.

Dave Aranda on Shapen: ‘We trust Blake and we’re riding with him.’

Prior to the Big 12 Championship, Baylor coach Dave Aranda stated his trust in quarterback Blake Shapen. Now, his backup quarterback is making him look like a genius.

“We’re going to go with Blake,” stated Aranda earlier on Saturday during ESPN’s College GameDay. “Gerry’s had a great week but I think he’s still just far off from protecting himself and just him being him.

“I feel for Gerry, you know, Gerry’s such a leader for us and we would not be here without him. But just his strength, his love for his teammates, his leadership is still shining through. I’m just a huge fan of Gerry, and I look forward for when he can be our quarterback again. But what an opportunity for Blake. Blake is a great friend to Gerry, and I think their friendship is helping to propel him through this. There’s going to be ups and downs in this game, and we trust Blake and we’re riding with him.”

So far, so good. Blake Shapen is making Gerry Bohanon proud, and Dave Aranda look fantastic. Baylor could be on their way to a memorable day.
