Hays (Kan.) High four-star linebacker Jaren Kanak decommitted from Clemson, he tells On3.

Kanak committed to Clemson on July 30 but failed to sign with the Tigers during the early signing period that ended last Friday. Kanak was primarily recruited to Clemson by former defensive coordinator Brent Venables, who left the Tigers to become Oklahoma’s head coach.

Jaren Kanak is a welcome addition to an Oklahoma Sooner class that ranks at No. 10 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking. Oklahoma also has the second-best class in the Big 12 behind the Texas Longhorns.

Jaren Kanak Scouting Summary

On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote the following about Jaren Kanak as a prospect:

One of the fastest players in the 2022 cycle, regardless of position. Has posted some scintillating track times, including a best of 10.37 seconds in the 100 meters. Plays quarterback for his high school but projects as a box defender and likely linebacker long term. Physically developed with a muscled-up build. Shows a very strong burst as a runner, getting to top speed quickly. Breaks off long runs with regularity and plays at a different speed than the competition. Also shows some considerable power and contact balance as a runner. Had a play where he ran over multiple defenders in the playoffs as a senior that went viral. Will need to adjust to defense and hone his coverage skills. May take a year or two to make the transition to defense but has high physical upside. Does not face strong competition in Kansas.

Jaren Kanak ranks as the No. 191 player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the 17th-best linebacker in the country.

On3 ranks Jaren Kanak higher than others in the industry. He’s the No. 75 player in the On300. He is also the fifth-best linebacker prospect in the country and the top overall player in the Sunflower State.
