It was a sweet, sweet victory for Clemson football on Saturday against Wake Forest, and the Tigers found an appropriate way to celebrate afterward.

After the defense came up with the final stop in double overtime to secure a 51-45 victory, the team headed to the locker room where several boxes of Krispy Kreme doughnuts were awaiting them. Clemson later posted a video of the postgame celebration to Twitter.

The victory improves Clemson to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in ACC play. It also marks the 100th win against an ACC opponent for coach Dabo Swinney.

The Tigers offense was led by quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, who finished with a season-high 371 yards passing and a career-high five touchdowns. He spread the ball around fairly evenly, as six different Clemson players ended the game with three or more catches.

Tigers tight end Davis Allen led the team with two receiving touchdowns, including the game-winning 21-yard yard catch on the first possession of the second overtime. Tigers running back Will Shipley finished with 104 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.

Clemson will hope to carry over the momentum from its win against Wake Forest into next week’s matchup against No. 12 NC State.

Dabo Swinney addresses how DJ Uiagalelei has improved at Clemson ahead of Wake Forest matchup

Dabo Swinney believes quarterback DJ Uiagalelei has improved by leaps and bounds since last season. Ahead of a huge ACC showdown with Wake Forest, the Clemson coach raved about how much better his quarterback looks in 2022 to the College GameDay crew.

“He’s just mentally tougher, he’s much more confident and we’re better around him. I think that’s made him better,” stated Swinney. “The biggest thing is that we all go through adversity. If you’re made of the right stuff, it makes you better. We don’t like it, but it makes you better, and he’s made of the right stuff. He’s an unbelievable kid. He’s one of the most humble leader I’ve ever been around. He’s put the work in. He’s battle tested. Got some good experience and he’s got some bad experience. He’s just a much more competent young man in what he’s doing. Great ownership of what we’re asking him to do offensively. He’s a much more confident runner, I think that’s a reflection of what he did from a, just getting his body where he wanted it to be. He’s healthy.

“So I’m really proud of him. I mean, he’s not perfect, but he’s so much improved and he’s getting better every week. I like the look in his eye, and the No. 1 thing is he’s providing great leadership for this team. Not just the offense, but the team. Great energy, every single day at practice. So I’m really proud of him, and really expect him to play well.”
