Congratulations are in order for Clemson Tigers’ head coach Dabo Swinney. His win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on the road on Saturday is win number 100 for him in ACC conference play.

Swinney is the perfect example of taking advantage of an opportunity. The Tigers head man found himself thrusted into his head coaching chance at Clemson mid-way through the 2008 season when Tommy Bowden elected to resign from the position. Swinney took on the interim title and eventually took over the reins of the program and has yet to look back. His first win as a head coach would also be his first in the ACC, leading the Tigers to a hard-fought 27-21 victory over Boston College on the road.

In Saturday’s win, things came full circle for Swinney. His Tigers were able to beat the Demon Deacons on the road by six points, 51-45.

Win no. 100 has to feel unique to the Clemson headman, but his work is far from finished. Swinney’s goal this year is to bring the national championship back to Clemson. And he and the Tigers kept that dream alive with their 100th conference victory with him at the helm.

Swinney explains where Clemson QB DJ Uiagalelei made the most improvements

Swinney believes quarterback DJ Uiagalelei has improved by leaps and bounds since last season for the Clemson Tigers.

Ahead of a huge ACC showdown with Wake Forest, Swinney raved about how much better his quarterback looks in 2022 to the College GameDay crew.

“He’s just mentally tougher, he’s much more confident and we’re better around him. I think that’s made him better,” stated Swinney. “The biggest thing is that we all go through adversity. If you’re made of the right stuff, it makes you better. We don’t like it, but it makes you better, and he’s made of the right stuff. He’s an unbelievable kid. He’s one of the most humble leader I’ve ever been around. He’s put the work in. He’s battle tested. Got some good experience and he’s got some bad experience. He’s just a much more competent young man in what he’s doing. Great ownership of what we’re asking him to do offensively. He’s a much more confident runner, I think that’s a reflection of what he did from a, just getting his body where he wanted it to be. He’s healthy.

“So I’m really proud of him. I mean, he’s not perfect, but he’s so much improved and he’s getting better every week. I like the look in his eye, and the No. 1 thing is he’s providing great leadership for this team. Not just the offense, but the team. Great energy, every single day at practice. So I’m really proud of him, and really expect him to play well.”
