In the midst of Clemson’s 40-10 blowout of Miami on Saturday, freshman wide receiver Adam Randall broke a bone in his hand while reeling in an 18-yard reception. Following the game, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney revealed the injury but stated that it would not be a major one that put Randall on the sideline for the rest of the season.

“Adam made a great play but he broke his hand,” Swinney said. “He broke a bone. But it’s not something that’s going to keep him out, it’s not a surgical thing. It’s on the very top but you have to kind of tape it together. I think that’s why he dropped that slant. He’s a tough kid. That was a great play he made. He’s going to be special, he really is. … He’ll be able to practice all week. Again, not anything surgical but a little bone right on top of his hand that he’ll have to cover. And he really needs to practice with it for the week to get used to it and how they’ve got to tape his fingers. It’ll heal up eventually.”

While it was just one catch for Randall, it was good enough to put him among the top receivers for the Tigers on the day. Clemson had 12 different players catch passes on Saturday, with Randall’s 18 yards making him the fourth-leading receiver on the team. Once he recovers from the injury, Randall could continue to evolve into a special player.

Randall was rated a four-star prospect and the No. 94 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class by the On3 consensus rating. Randall has five catches on the season for 61 total yards. He had a season-high two catches for 27 yards in a loss to Notre Dame earlier in the month.

Tigers stay alive in playoff picture

Luckily for Randall, it looks like he could have plenty of time to recover in terms of the postseason. Despite dropping that game to the Fighting Irish, the Tigers have a chance to sneak back into the College Football Playoff picture after a crazy day of college football.

Tennessee suffered a second loss, likely knocking itself out of the picture. North Carolina lost to Georgia Tech, making Clemson the only ACC team with a reasonable path into the playoff, while Michigan, TCU and Ohio State all got big scares in their games, proving that any week can be dangerous for any team.
