Clemson Tigers star freshman receiver Adam Randall made his collegiate debut on Saturday versus Louisiana Tech. Randall tore his ACL during spring training but bounced back in time to make an impact with DJ Uiagalelei and the Tigers’ offense this season.

Uiagalelei discussed his new target’s miraculous recovery after Randall caught his first pass for 11 yards in the 48-20 win.

“It felt really good (to have Randall back), I think it’s an exciting time to see someone come back that fast from ACL injury,” Uiagalelei said. “All glory to god, Adam put in the work and I was excited to see him out there. He played great. I wish he got him the ball a little more but he’s going to be a special talent.”

Randall was ranked as the No. 7 receiver and No. 52 overall player in the country for the class of 2022, according to the On3 Consensus. The Myrtle Beach, S.C. native chose Clemson over two dozen other programs and enrolled early. With nine games of the regular season left to play, Randall still has the opportunity to make his mark on the stat sheet in his first season.

Sophomore Beaux Collins and freshman Antonio Williams are leading the Tigers in receiving so far through three games. Both receivers have nine catches a piece while Collins leads overall with 158 yards and three scores. Senior Joseph Ngata is on the youngsters’ heels with seven catches, 105 yards.

Adam Randall adds big-body threat to Clemson passing game

Swinney described what Randall brings to the Clemson offense at the start of the season when he received clearance to play again.

“He is a freshman, and not only is he a freshman, he’s a freshman coming off an injury,” Swinney said. “But I’m thankful he was able to get a lot of spring practice in. He does have a visual of what it looks like and what he can do. He’s just got to work his way back into good playing shape and the rotation.

(Randall) brings great competitiveness. He’s a great finisher on the ball. He’s got a big, strong body and he can run. He’s not going to make us worse, that’s for sure.”
