Former Clemson wide receiver Amari Rodgers shares reaction to pick six on Twitter

The Clemson Tigers currently trail the Pittsburgh Panthers 27-17 in the game this afternoon and former Clemson receiver Amari Rodgers shared his displeasure on Twitter after his Tigers went down 21-7 following a pick six.

With 11:39 remaining in the third quarter, Clemson quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei threw a pick-six on a pitch play.

It was a shovel pass he was trying to toss to running back Kobe Pace was jumped by Pitt linebacker SirVocea Dennis, then returned it 53 yards for a touchdown.

The game-changing play put the Panthers up 21-7. Check it out in the video below.

After the play, Clemson’s coaches had seen enough and they decided to bench Uiagalelei and put in backup quarterback Taisun Phommachanh.

Phommachanh is a native of Bridgeport, Connecticut and he was rated among the top quarterbacks in the nation coming out of high school. For his entire high school career, he racked up 6,492 yards of total offense and 71 touchdowns. He played two seasons at Harding High School (Bridgeport, Ct.) and played two seasons at Avon Old Farms.

Later in the fourth quarter, the Clemson coaching staff decided to put D.J. Uiagalelei back in the game at quarterback.

Rodgers finished his career at Clemson as one of the most decorated receivers in the Clemson Tiger football history. He finished as a Biletnekoff Award finalist in 2020. Rodgers was a critical piece in Clemson’s four College Football Playoff berths from 2017-2020.

During his career at Clemson, he hauled in 181 career catches for 2,144 receiving yards, and 15 receiving touchdowns. He currently ranks sixth in Tiger history in catches and 12th in total receiving yards.

Rodgers was selected in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. In the 2021 season thus far, he’s hauled in two catches for 33 yards in limited game action.

Rodgers’ father is Tee Martin, a former Tennessee Volunteer legend at quarterback. Martin is currently the wide receivers coach for the Baltimore Ravens.
