CLEMSON — One down, one to go for Dabo Swinney and Clemson.

Kylon Griffin, who attends Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School (Ala.), officially signed with the Tigers on Wednesday for the class of 2022.

The safety committed to Clemson on Jan. 25 after wrapping up his official visit a couple of days earlier.

Griffin chose the Tigers over Nebraska and Southern Cal last month. His addition is a big one as Clemson was in need of a safety in this class and found a good one in Griffin.

“They just kept preaching what they’re all about and how they’re so good on the football field,” Griffin told Clemson Sports last week. “They said you’re going to be a great person before you’re a great football player. I kept hearing about that, kept buying in, and it eventually led to this.”

Griffin’s high school teammate — linebacker TJ Dudley — is set to announce his decision later on Wednesday.

Dudley also has Clemson in his top group, and Griffin is hopeful that the two will be teammates at the next level as well.

“I’m talking to him,” Griffin said last week. “Trying to harp on him to get over here. At the end of the day, he’s going to do what he thinks is best for him the same way I’m doing what’s best for me. I really want him over here the same way I want other recruits here.”

More on Clemson signee Kylon Griffin

Griffin is rated as the No. 896 player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 79 safety and No. 35 player from Alabama.

Griffin is a versatile player who made plays all over the field during his high school career.

Clemson loves having players who can play multiple positions in the secondary, and Griffin can certainly do that.

“Kylon is a dynamic player,” Griffins high school coach Kirk Johnson told Clemson Sports last week. “He’s rangy, has a quick twitch. … He’s in a defense that’s very college-like where there’s a lot of moving parts and we ask him to do a lot of stuff. They’re getting a versatile guy.”
