If there were any doubts about Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson‘s athleticism, all you need to do is take a look at this video of him dunking a basketball from the free throw line.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound star quarterback has drawn comparisons to former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL MVP Cam Newton. Richardson’s size, speed and pure athleticism has catapulted him into talks of being one of the top quarterbacks in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Whether he should be getting compared to Cam Newton or Michael Jordan is certainly up for debate after showing off his skills on the basketball courts, but the Gainesville-native still has a lot to prove on the gridiron.

With just a handful of starts under his belt – while impressive – the biggest worry for him right now is getting back on the win column after losing to No. 9 Kentucky at home last weekend. Richardson and the Gator’s first chance to redeem themselves on their home field since the loss is set for Saturday night against South Florida. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET live on ESPN.

Todd McShay weighs in on Anthony Richardson after first two games of the season

The hype around Anthony Richardson was sky-high after Week 1 against Utah, and understandably so. Although the Florida star came back down to earth against Kentucky, the chatter is still there, and ESPN NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay explained why.

McShay appeared on The Paul Finebaum Show on Friday and had some high praise for Richardson. He put the Gators star in a category of his own from a talent perspective. However, McShay preached patience as he develops under Billy Napier. It’s all about gaining experience.

Still, he thinks Florida fans are watching something special.

“I saw a young, inexperienced quarterback who has all the talent in the world,” McShay said. “I’ll say this about ‘AR’: He is the most physically gifted quarterback in the country, and I don’t think it’s close. I think he can be a superstar in college football, I think he can be a superstar in the NFL. That’s how much talent he has. He’s just not there yet. He completed 33 passes a year ago and that was just his third start with the Florida Gators. You see all the talent and all these idiot draft analysts come out and say he could be a high first-round pick and everyone in the media saying maybe Heisman Trophy after … one game, at that point.

“But the reality is he’s going to go through some bumps. I think he’s still kind of understanding the whole field. I think he’s still struggling with when to take a little bit off of his fastball. Not everything on a line and realizing some touch throws vs. when you’ve got to drive the ball in and fit in a tight window.”
