ECU defensive back Jordy Lowery commits to transfer to Florida

ECU Pirates defensive back Jordy Lowery has committed to transfer to the Florida Gators, On3 has learned. He previously played at Western Carolina.

Jordy Lowery played his high school football at Bartow in Florida. There, he was a member of the Class of 2022, but was largely overlooked as a recruit. He was a three-star who was the 1,858th-ranked player overall and the 156th-ranked cornerback in that recruiting cycle. He held multiple FBS offers before ultimately choosing to go to Western Carolina.

In 2022, with Western Carolina, Lowery would utilize his redshirt and didn’t see any action. He earned more playing time during the 2023 season. That was largely as a reserve on defense and on special teams. That included playing in a game against Arkansas, an SEC opponent. That all led to his breakout season at the FCS level in 2024, when he was a redshirt sophomore. Lowery started in 12 games and led Western Carolina with six interceptions. He was a Second-Team All-American selection that season, according to the Associated Press.

Ahead of the 2025 season, Lowery transferred to ECU, making the jump to FBS football. In 12 games with the Pirates, Lowery had 27 tackles, including 2.0 tackles for a loss. He also defended four passes.

Following the season, Jordy Lowery would once again enter the Transfer Portal. This time, he’s landed with the Florida Gators.

Florida is a program undergoing a coaching change this offseason. Amid a 4-8 season, the Gators chose to move on from Billy Napier. In his place is going to be Jon Sumrall, the former Tulane head coach who took the Green Wave to the College Football Playoff this past season. Of note, ECU played Tulane last season in a game where Lowery managed a tackle.

As is often the case with coaching changes, Florida has been very active in the Transfer Portal. That includes 28 outgoing players and 26 incoming players, though that number of incoming players could continue to grow. Lowery is now the first cornerback to join that group, though the fourth defensive back overall.

This offseason there were several changes made to the Transfer Portal. That means that there will no longer be a Spring window for player movement. It’s only this Winter window, which closed on January 16th. Still, more movement is expected as players continue to find their new homes.
