Florida firmly in the mix for former Colorado commit, 4-star QB Antwann Hill
Warner Robins (Ga.) Houston County four-star quarterback Antwann Hill was committed to Colorado for just over a month. After pulling the trigger on his pledge in October, he was back on the board by December.
Reclassifying to the 2024 cycle was a real option for Hill, but after taking some time to think things over, he thought better of it and opted to back off his commitment to the Buffs and open things back up.
Florida was a player for the 6-foot-4.5, 205-pounder then and it certainly is now. The Gators have continued to contend for the top-100 prospect and are once again one of the teams thought to have the best shot at landing the signal-caller.
“We know that Antwann Hill is certainly in that group of three or four top guys that Florida is looking at,” Florida recruiting insider Keith Niebuhr said on ‘The Inside Scoop’.
Hill has made his way to Gainesville for multiple game visits last fall, as well as a Junior Day trip this January. Whether it be Billy Napier, Ryan O’Hara or others on staff at UF, the QB has felt the love from the Sunshine State program.
“They most definitely made me feel like I was at home,” Hill told Gators Online after his latest visit. “Just seeing DJ Lagway working out, and how they treated him — seeing how they’re bringing in freshmen quarterbacks early and how they’re developing him and getting him ready for the SEC made me feel good.”
Hill fitting Florida’s new type under center
With Graham Mertz back under center for another season in 2024 and the signing of Five-Star Plus+ QB DJ Lagway in the 2024 cycle, there’s a lot to look at in the QB room currently in Gainesville. Hill may not be a plug-and-play prospect, but he certainly has a build that’s reminiscent of the monster prospect that just signed his Letter of Intent with the Gators in December.
“Upside wise, you gotta like Antwann Hill’s upside. He’s tall, rangy, he told me when he visited Florida, he said ‘I even look like DJ Lagway. I play like him and I look like him.’ He’s a guy that can also run the ball,” Niebuhr said.
The likes of Georgia, Texas A&M and Georgia Tech are also in the mix for Hill. Last month, UGA skipper Kirby Smart visited him at Houston County High. Hill is planning spring visits, but as of early February, things continue to look good for Florida.
Hill is the No. 76 overall prospect and No. 7 QB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 13 player in The Peach State.
“We think if Florida put the foot on the gas with Antwann Hill, we think they have a real shot,” Niebuhr said. “We know Georgia Tech’s highly involved, he’s a former Colorado commit, we know that Texas A&M is involved, Georgia visited his school recently. He’s an outstanding prospect, but again, I think he’s more of a long-term projection.”
