Getting a quarterback tied down is the key to any top recruiting class, especially for a first-year head coach. Florida headman Billy Napier was targeting On3 Consensus four-star Jaden Rashada but on Sunday, the Pittsburg (Ca.) quarterback announced he would be playing his college football at in-state rival Miami.

Gators fans are not too happy with their team losing out on Rashada or the poor start to the recruiting cycle. The outrage has been so bad that a Florida athletic department member spoke out, saying everything will be ok.

Assistant AD of Recruiting Katie Turner took to Twitter to express how much work everybody involved with the Florida program is working. She says the best is yet to come as the 2023 recruiting class still has half the year to develop.

“I work an average of 106 hours per week!! Can you please stop trolling me,” Turner said in a recently deleted tweet. “I’m working my butt off. Hard work will pay off!! The best is yet to come!!”

Rashada was a highly sought-after recruit, taking official visits to Florida, LSU, Miami, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M. At the end of the day, the Gators and Hurricanes were the final two options as head coach Mario Cristobal won out. A huge recruiting win for the ACC program.

With still a senior year to play, Rashada is ranked the No. 7 quarterback in the 2023 class by the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting services. He is the No. 4 player in the state of California and breaks the top 50 on the national scale.

As for Florida, their recruiting class is just inside the top 25 nationally at No. 23. Within the SEC, the Gators rank seventh, with SEC East rivals Georgia and Tennessee well ahead. Eight commitments are locked in for Napier and his staff, with all but one being inside the state of Florida.

Recruiting in the summer can bring momentum into the season but at the same time, National Signing Day is a long way away. Napier and his staff will have until December for the early signing period and then another two months to get the class together for the February signing day.

Losing Rashada was a big blow to the Florida recruiting class, especially when Miami is on the other end of the commitment. However, at the end of the day, Napier still has plenty of time to recover and build a solid first class.
