The Florida Gators have revealed just how much they will pay interim head coach Greg Knox for leading the team in the Gasparilla Bowl against UCF. Florida did not take long to find their new head coach, Billy Napier, after moving on from Dan Mullen. Unfortunately for Knox, that means he will have to find employment elsewhere for the 2022 season, as it does not currently appear that Napier will retain the Florida interim coach.

That being said, Knox is making the best out of this short stint as head coach for the Gators. And in doing so, he will make a little extra money in the process. According to Florida Gators beat writer Edgar Thompson, Florida will add $25,000 in extra cash to Knox’s wallet for coaching the bowl game.

“To serve as #Gators interim coach during Gasparilla Bowl against UCF, Greg Knox will receive $25,000 on top of $48,500 bowl bonus (10% of salary),” wrote Thompson on Twitter.

Knox took over as head coach for Florida in their final week of the season. Heading into the game, the Gators needed just one more win to receive a bowl bid, and under the interim coach, they did just that. To make matters even sweeter, the win came against bitter in-state rival the Florida State Seminoles. And if that didn’t give you a cavity as a Gators fan, the fact that their win eliminated their Florida State from bowl contention definitely should.

Florida quarterback to transfer

Florida’s offense is losing a key playmaker. Redshirt junior quarterback Emory Jones is planning to enter the transfer portal, GatorsOnline’s Nick De La Torre reported Wednesday night. However, Jones is still planning to play in the Gasparilla Bowl.

Jones ranked No. 10 in the SEC with 213.6 passing yards and 58 rushing yards per game this season. The dual-threat quarterback was a big part of the Gators offense under Dan Mullen and interim coach Greg Knox. In fact, he accounted for 57.8% of the Gators’ offense this year.

He’ll have two years of eligibility left.

Florida parted ways with Mullen prior to its regular-season finale against Florida State and hired Louisiana coach Billy Napier to replace him. The Gators went 6-6 this season and will take on UCF in the Gasparilla Bowl on Dec. 23.

Jones was a four-star recruit out of high school from the Class of 2018 and was the No. 11 quarterback from that class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Jones held offers from Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State, among others, out of high school.
