The Florida Gators have released the first-ever officially licensed athlete, school NFT. It’s only fitting that they made it of Florida legend Tim Tebow, one of the biggest icons in the school’s history.

The company that helped launch the NFT is named Campus Legends, a company co-founded by Tebow that is a marketplace for buying and selling “unique digital collectibles for collegiate athletes.”

NFTs in athletics

It will certainly be interesting to see where the college athlete NFT market goes from here and just how valuable all of the NFTs will be down the road. While there is a ton of excitement and interest on the internet surrounding NFTs, the key question will be what exactly is going to determine the value of each NFT?

Former Alabama star receiver Jerry Jeudy has stepped into the NFT world.

The NFT market is likely to be flooded with an endless amount of athletes trying to capitalize on their name, image, and likeness. So it will just be interesting to see what direction the college athlete NFT market goes and exactly how successful it will be.

Earlier this year, there were NFTs released of elite high school basketball prospects, such as Memphis big man Jalen Duren.

Tim Tebow at Florida

Tim Tebow established himself as one of the greatest players in college football history during his career with the Florida Gators. He won two BCS National Championships with the Gators (2006 and 2008). One was with Chris Leak operating as the starting quarterback under center. In 2007, he won the highest individual award in college football, the Heisman Trophy. Tebow became the first sophomore in NCAA history to win the award.

He ran and threw for a combined 55 touchdowns during his Heisman Trophy winning season. He became the first player in FBS history to throw for and run for over 20 touchdowns in a season. He threw for 3,286 yards and 32 touchdowns, while adding 895 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground. Tebow put up those numbers in 13 games and that season is still considered one of the greatest seasons by any player in college football history.

At the end of his highly decorated college career, Tebow held five NCAA, 14 SEC and 28 Florida statistical records.
