The Elam family is full of NFL defensive backs. Former Florida Gator Kaiir Elam is the latest member of the family to play in the NFL after being drafted by Buffalo this spring.

After being picked by Buffalo, reporters asked him what his father, Abram Elam, had to say to him about the football scene in upstate New York. The younger Elam chuckled that his dad just kept singing some song. “A theme song.”

He must be referencing a version of the Isley Brothers old hit song “Shout” that Bills fans remade with lyrics about their football team. You can listen to this fine work of art right here. “The Bills make me wanna SHOUT” may be stuck in Elam’s head for the next decade. Especially if he sticks in Buffalo.

NFL Experience from Dad and Uncle

Aside from his expertise in catchy team jingles, Elam’s father — as well as his uncle — have actual NFL experience to share with the upcoming rookie. Elam said his father remembered Buffalo as “one of the hardest places to play” during his days in the league. He also acknowledged the weather change. Going from a warm climate in college at Florida to the bitter cold of Buffalo will be a rough adjustment.

Elam went on to explain how important his father and uncle (Matt Elam, who played for the Ravens) have been throughout his football career. “My dad and uncle are really essential in my life,” he said. He feels he they’ve helped him be more prepared than other players his age. Since they taught him “things they didn’t know” at this stage in their careers.

His dad and uncle have somewhat recent experience, too. Abram Elam may already have a son entering the NFL, but pops has only been out of the league for nine years. Uncle Matt was also a Florida Gator, and helped kickstart the string of high draft picks from the Gator secondary over the last decade. He was the 32nd overall selection in 2013 and played three seasons in Baltimore.

Kaiir Elam brings elite talent and family pedigree to Buffalo. This rookie is no stranger to life in the NFL.
