Lake Cormorant (Miss.) four-star defensive lineman Kamarion Franklin is visiting Florida this weekend. He announced the news Thursday night over Twitter.

Franklin is the No. 29 overall prospect and No. 5 defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 1 player in Mississippi.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound recruit holds 24 offers. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Ole Miss has a close lead for his commitment at 20.9%.

Franklin visited Miami last weekend. He told Stephen Wagner of CaneSport that he is “interested” in taking an official visit to the program.

“They’ve just gotta keep doing what they’re doing,” Franklin said. “They’re sticking out. They’ve been different… It’s just different. They’re in their own little category, so it’s just different. They’re one of my favorites right now.”

Before visiting Miami, Franklin was at South Carolina. The four-star shared with Chris Clark of GamecockCentral that after Miami and Florida, he is visiting Oregon and Ohio State.

“It was good,” Franklin said about his visit to the Gamecocks. “Just the atmosphere, practice, everything really stood out. Just how much they prioritized me.”

This spring will impact Franklin’s recruitment

Franklin broke down his recruitment with On3’s Chad Simmons on March 10. One thing he mentioned was that these spring visits will play a role in his decision.

“It’s a real big impact,” Franklin said. “Just to see how big a priority I am as a player and just spending time with coaches and really seeing the idea of how they want to use me in their defense, how they want me to fit their program.”

The Mississippi native also likes to be recruited a certain way.

“You gotta be different from what everybody else is saying,” Franklin said. “Don’t tell me what I want to hear. I want coaches to tell me what I need to be better at, how they plan on using me, not just hyping me up and then tearing me down when I get there. Just go ahead, let me know right now what I need to get better at.”

Regarding Florida, the Gators’ 2024 recruiting class contains five players. The group ranks No. 3 in the 2024 On3 Industry Recruiting Rankings and No. 3 in the SEC.

Head coach Billy Napier and his staff do not currently have any EDGE commitments. However, three Florida pledges are top-100 recruits in Willis (Texas) four-star quarterback DJ Lagway, Atlanta (Ga.) Woodward Academy four-star linebacker Myles Graham and Largo (Fla.) four-star linebacker Adarius Hayes.
