Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson sparked Florida’s offense once he took over at quarterback on Saturday. Richardson took over for starter Emory Jones. In the game, Richardson was 10-of-19 for 167 yards and three touchdowns, in addition to 37 yards and a score on the ground.

After the game, though, Richardson’s comments left many wondering about his future as a quarterback for Florida.

“I can’t really speak on that,” Richardson said after the game of a potential transfer. “Time is the only thing that tells. Right now I’m a Gator.”

Following the backlash from those comments, Richardson took to Twitter to clear up what he meant with the comment. Richardson said that he is a Florida Gator.

“I am a Florida Gator, through and through,” he tweeted. “Sorry if my response wasn’t clear enough, but I’m not worried about anything but maximizing my opportunity now! Don’t count us out…”

As if there wasn’t enough attention or speculation surrounding Richardson’s comments, Lane Kiffin may have added more. The Ole Miss head coach retweeted Richardson’s tweet, adding even more room for speculation.

Richardson has shown off his ability when at quarterback for Florida

While Jones has been locked in as Florida’s starting quarterback, Richardson has carved out a role for himself. On the season, Richardson has appeared in five games. He has thrown for 392 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions. Richardson is also a dangerous threat using his legs, as he has 348 yards and three touchdowns on 28 rushing attempts.

After losing 49-42 to LSU on Saturday, Florida now sits at 4-3 on the year. The Gators have a bye next week but then return home to face No. 1 Georgia. Florida will likely need Richardson and Jones to both have good games at quarterback to beat the Georgia defense.

Jones has thrown for 1,305 yards, 10 touchdowns, and nine interceptions so far this season. He also leads Florida in rushing with 495 yards and two touchdowns on 85 attempts.

Ole Miss could lose quarterback Matt Corral to the NFL after the season, so the Rebels could be a potential landing spot should Richardson opt to leave Florida.
