Senior guard Myreon Jones is returning to the Florida Gators for the 2022 season, head coach Todd Golden shared on Sunday with college basketball insider Jon Rothstein.

Jones played 33 games for Mike White in 2021, posting 8.5 points per game in 27.9 minutes. The Birmingham, Ala., native will use his fifth year of eligibility after playing three seasons with the Penn State Nittany Lions and one season in Gainesville.

With his 8.5 ppg average, Jones also added 2.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists. He had the best season of his career as a junior at Penn State with 15.3 ppg. He’s shooting 38.5% from the field on his career, 35.7% from deep and 76.7% from the charity stripe.

Todd Golden is doing an expert job recruiting Gators back to the team. Last week, starting big man Colin Castleton announced he’d play another season in Gainesville.

Gators freshman returning

Florida Gators freshman guard Kowacie Reeves is no longer entering his name into the NCAA transfer portal, per Travis Branham of 247Sports. Reeves surprised Florida basketball fans and the program when news broke that he intended to enter the portal earlier this week. On Wednesday, the 6-foot-6 native of Macon, Georgie, made it clear remaining with the Gators was a real option.

According to Branham, news of Reeves’s reversal and to return to Florida was announced on Friday, and just nearly 48 hours removed from his entry into the transfer portal.

Reeves was a top-50 player in the On3 Consensus for the 2021 recruiting class. He played in 29 games (10 starts) and averaged 15.5 minutes per game. He averaged 5.5 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.5 steals per game while shooting 33% from 3-point range. Reeves really came on late in the 2021-22 season. He scored a career-high 21 points against Texas A&M. Reeves also scored 14 points in each of Florida’s two NIT games.
