Fabien Lovett ruled out of Cheez-It Bowl prior to kickoff

Florida State defensive lineman Fabien Lovett was in sweats with less than an hour before kickoff as the rest of his team took the field to warmup for the Cheez-It Bowl, Warchant.com reported on Thursday evening. Lovett will not play in the Cheez-It Bowl vs. Oklahoma on Thursday night. He only played in seven games during the 2022 season, racking up 10 tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack.

Fabien Lovett stats for the 2021 season

In 2021, Lovett appeared in 11 games, starting nine of those. He racked up 28 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, and two quarterback hurries. For his efforts during the 2021 season, Lovett earned honorable mention All-ACC honors. Before transferring to Florida State Lovett played his first two seasons of college football with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Coming out of high school, Lovett was rated as the No. 39 defensive lineman in America for the 2018 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus Rankings.

The Cheez-It Bowl between Florida State and Oklahoma started at 5:30 PM EST. The game was nationally televised on ESPN. Florida State won the game 35-32 and they got a spectacular performance from their quarterback Jordan Travis. Travis connected on 27 of 38 attempts for 418 passing yards, while passing two touchdowns and just one interception. Florida State receiver Johnny Wilson had a spectacular game, hauling in eight catches for 202 receiving yards.

Following the game, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell thanked several people at Florida State University.

“I want to thank the staff and all the administration, to the alignment that we have from the president, board of trustees are wonderful athletic director, (this is a) special place and we had the right people in place. We definitely have the right young men to continue to help this program get to where it deserves to be,” Norvell said.

Treshaun Ward helped out on the ground for the Seminoles, running for 81 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns. The defense limited Gabriel to 14-of-24 passing for 243 yards and one touchdown.
