Florida State wrapped up spring practice Saturday with its annual Garnet vs. Gold game at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. Heading into Year Three of the Mike Norvell era, the Seminoles – who are currently 8-13 in two seasons under his direction – have their minds set on taking a step forward this upcoming season.

Florida State spent the past month going through spring practices and then played in front of its fans on Saturday to wrap-up the period. Now, the Seminoles turn their attention to summer workouts and then to fall camp. As the program looks to improve in every area before the 2022 season arrives, there are some newcomers who have caught Norvell’s attention on the practice field.

Meeting with the media following Florida State’s spring game on Saturday, Norvell revealed his early impressions of the Seminoles’ new transfers and true freshmen.

“I think the transfers and the high school guys that have come in – that’s the key to recruiting,” Norvell said. “How guys are gonna be able to come in and be able to make a positive impact. I mean, you look last year – I think we had eight all-conference players, and a high majority of them were transfers. Being able to have the evaluation part of it and making sure we find the right fit, and the guys were bringing in here in the high school ranks that are going to be able to make an immediate impact.

Azareye’h Thomas, Sam McCall – I mean, those guys really did some good things out there today. I know I mentioned a couple of freshmen. Omar Graham‘s a guy I’m really excited about, what he’s showing and what he’s bringing. And offensively, we had a lot of young offensive linemen that were out there that still should be in high school.”

While Norvell has liked what he’s seen out of his newcomers up to this point, he made it clear that while Florida State was able to get the guys it wanted, it now has to continue to develop them moving forward.

“I think we’ve done a great job in the evaluation part of it, and now it’s the continued growth and development,” Norvell said.
