Florida State has landed a talented running back courtesy of the Pac 12. On Monday, the Seminoles announced former Ducks running back Trey Benson was joining the squad.

“Florida State has added running back Trey Benson, a redshirt sophomore transfer from Oregon, head coach Mike Norvell announced Monday,” the program revealed on their website.

Additionally, Mike Norvell stated how excited he was to bring Benson into the Seminoles program,

“We are excited to bring Trey into our Nole Family,” Norvell said, via the team’s website. “He has a remarkable combination of size and speed. Trey’s made a tremendous, full recovery from a knee injury that limited his availability his first two college seasons. He is an explosive, powerful, big running back who can be showcased in our offense.”

At Oregon, Benson missed the 2020 season due to injury. However, he appeared in nine games for the Ducks last season. During his time, the running back accumulated 22 yards and a touchdown. As you can see, he’ll be looking for more with Florida State.

A former four-star recruit, Benson chose Oregon over many schools — including Florida State. However, it’s evident the Seminoles made an impact on him, as it’s the program he chose while looking to leave Oregon.

Benson is the No. 22 ranked running back in On3’s Transfer Portal Rankings, and No. 222 overall.

Benson sends message to Oregon, announces Florida State decision

Moreover, Benson took to Twitter to send a message detailing his decision to choose Florida State.

“Dear Duck Family, First, I would like to start off by thanking God who is the head of my life. He’s put me in so many positions to do what I love and I’m forever grateful for the many blessings that I’ve received.

“To my teammates, thanks for becoming my brothers and being what I needed while here at The University of Oregon. I love you guys and I’ll never forget the family we built here.

“Thanks to the entire medical staff, Mrs. Steph and Chief for taking great care of me while I was here.

“Most importantly, I would like to thank my coaches, Coach Cristobal and Coach Mastro for giving me the opportunity to be apart of this program. You’ve both molded me into the man and football player I have become while at Oregon.

“Having said that and after much prayer, I would like to announce I plan on enrolling at Florida State University.”
