Florida State landed a massive recruiting win on Thursday by flipping Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas four-star safety Conrad Hussey from Penn State. His decision elevated the Seminoles’ 2023 recruiting class to No. 19 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings

Head coach Mike Norvell‘s group, which ranks No. 3 in the ACC, rose one spot from No. 20. It contains 17 players and is composed of one five-star, eight four-stars and eight three-stars.

Hussey is the No. 249 overall prospect and No. 18 safety in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 47 player in Florida.

On3 rates Hussey higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2023 On300, Hussey is the No. 215 overall prospect, No. 16 safety and No. 44 player in Florida.

Hussey provides big victory for Florida State after National Signing Day

Landing Hussey is a great win for Norvell and his staff following National Signing Day. On Wednesday, Florida State notched pledges from Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep four-star athlete Edwin Joseph and Key West (Fla.) three-star offensive tackle Christopher Otto. However, the Seminoles lost a commitment from Highland Home (Ala.) four-star EDGE Keldric Faulk — who flipped to Auburn — and Savannah (Ga.) Jenkins three-star defensive lineman Tavion Gadson flipped to Kentucky after decommitting from Florida State a few days earlier.

The Seminoles’ class currently contains blue-chip talent on both sides of the ball. Florida State’s group is led by Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Stranahan five-star wide receiver Hykeem Williams, the No. 30 overall prospect and No. 5 wideout in the On3 Consensus.

Joseph, Clearwater (Fla.) Clearwater Academy International four-star offensive tackle Lucas Simmons, Orange Park (Fla.) Fleming Island four-star running back Samuel Singleton and Fort Pierce (Fla.) Fort Pierce Westwood four-star wide receiver Vandrevius Jacobs are other offensive commits ranked in the top 350 of the On3 Consensus. On the defensive side of the ball, Florida State has four top-275 pledges in Hussey, Ripon (Calif.) Manteca four-star linebacker Blake Nichelson, New Bern (N.C.) four-star defensive lineman Keith Sampson Jr. and Miami Gulliver Prep four-star EDGE Lamont Green Jr.
