Florida State head coach Mike Norvell recapped “productive” spring meetings for the ACC amid a lot of speculation about realignment in college football.

It was status quo for Norvell in the meetings at the moment. Norvell mentioned transfer portal and NIL talk among the meeting topics, as well as no divisions for the ACC.

At least from that perspective, it was productive in the eyes of the Florida State head coach.

“It’s been a good day and a half,” Norvell said. “(It was a) chance to go through and get face-to-face with other coaches, administrators and have an opportunity to express thoughts. You’ll be able to kind of get updates of different elements of all the things that is now college football. NIL, transfer portal you know, some reflections and, you know, concerns.

“I think it’s always good to get a chance to know (commissioner) Jim Phillips. You know, I think he’s, I think he’s extraordinary and what he does I mean, he’s an unbelievable worker and trying to push this conference and to provide guidance and direction.”

Basically, it was all about the here and now for Norvell and Florida State. The ACC, at least according to the coach, had productive meetings over how the conference could evolve.

So for now, nothing about realignment.

“So we got to spend some good time with him here earlier today,” Norvell said. “The conversations with athletic directors, the faculty athletic reps, you know, I think all of that is positive. When you’re able to share thoughts and perspectives and you have a good discussion, it’s always a good thing. But that was a productive day and a half over some things.

“Even with football, you’re moving out of divisions. To be able to talk tiebreakers and really try to make sure everybody’s on the same page … that was productive.”

Seven ACC schools met about future in conference

A handful of ACC schools reportedly met with each other over the past several months to determine how unbreakable their deal with the ACC is, according to Action Network’s Brett McMurphy.

Amid realignment in college football, the next wave could come soon with a vengeance. McMurphy revealed “The Magnificent Seven” schools that could look to break off from the conference.

The Big Ten recently added USC and UCLA while the SEC is set to bring in Oklahoma and Texas. Now, the ACC’s future could be murky.

Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC, NC State, Virginia & Virginia Tech are ‘The Magnificent 7’ ACC schools, sources told Action Network HQ,” McMurphy wrote on Twitter. “These schools, Ross Dellenger reported, have met in past several months, w/lawyers examining grant-of-rights to determine just how unbreakable it is. ACC deal runs thru 2036.”
