Florida State head coach Mike Norvell thanked fans and anyone else who has had transfer wideout Winston Wright in their thoughts since Saturday. Wright was in a car accident in his hometown of Savannah, Georgia, and had to go to a local hospital for a leg injury. Reporters asked Norvell for an update on the former West Virginia standout on Wednesday.

“Winston was involved in an accident over Spring Break,” Norvell said. “He was in the passenger seat, it wasn’t anything to their fault. We’re thankful that with the severity of the accident that he’s still here. It was very scary. He’s been back in Tallahassee this week. He’ll miss an extended period of time here in the short term but we’re grateful for all the things that have happened.

“We’ve been in constant contact with him. On Sunday night, we were on Facetime and showed him his new locker and he’s in good spirits. He’ll be rolling as soon as possible and we’ve had very positive reports but he has to go through the process. He’s a special young man.”

Wright spent the last three seasons in Morgantown, playing in 33 games for the Mountaineers. He had his best year during 2021, hauling in 688 yards and five touchdowns on 63 receptions. He joined the Seminoles this offseason, along with former Oregon wideout Mycah Pittman.

WATCH: Florida State reveals new locker room to players

The Florida State Seminoles are starting the spring football season in style.

Florida State players returned to the locker rooms on Sunday night ahead of spring ball, and they were met with a brand-new, state-of-the-art locker room renovation, which prompted immense excitement from the team.

The Seminoles athletic department managed to finish the renovated locker rooms at Doak Campbell Stadium in perfect timing, with spring ball just on the horizon. Moreover, with recruiting starting to ramp up, head coach Mike Norvell will have brand-new toys to flaunt when recruits visit Florida State. Several recruits began taking more unofficial visits to Florida State, among other colleges, this month, to get a feel for what spring football practice might look like.

Last season, Florida State finished with a 5-7 overall record, a disappointing finish for Norvell in his staff during their second year. It was, however, an improvement from the 3-6 campaign in 2020, and Florida State will head into the 2022 season with a renewed sense of excitement – not just because of the locker rooms, of course, but because the Seminoles believe they have the pieces to compete in the ACC.
