Georgia and Florida play one of the most unique games in the SEC as they play on a neutral field during the conference season. While some want to see the game end up at Sanford or Ben Hill Griffin Stadiums, they’ve been on a neutral site since 1933 besides one home-and-home in 1994 and 1995. The home field atmospheres in Athens and Gainesville are great, but former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray says he enjoys how distinct their game with the Gators is.

Murray talked about the Georgia vs. Florida game when discussing the recent recruiting changes for the event on Dawg Walk Talk. He says it’s similar to the Red River Rivalry because of how unlike any other conference game during the season it is.

“As a player (at Georgia), though, I will say being there in Jacksonville, running out of the tunnel, 50-50 divide, the atmosphere in the stadium? It’s unlike anything else in the country,” said Murray. “I mean Texas vs. Oklahoma obviously has a very similar feel in their rivalry game and it’s tremendous. As a player, there’s something to be said about being in that type of environment, the uniqueness of it. Those are some of the most special games.”

Aaron Murray went 3-1 in his career at Georgia against the Gators in Jacksonville. He says it would have been great to have the games on their home field or on the road. The feel of the game with both sides present, though, is something Murray says that puts Georgia vs. Florida above some of the other SEC rivalries.

“I’m not saying I wouldn’t have enjoyed the game as much if it was (at Georgia) or (at Florida). It would have been awesome. I’m a kid who grew up going to games in The Swamp just being an hour and a half from Gainesville. It’s just that different vibe, that different feel,” said Murray. “Driving over the bridge and seeing the red and black and all the orange and blue. It’s special and I do think that’s what makes this game so unique and puts it on a different level.”

Georgia and Florida will meet up again this season on Oct. 29. It may return to the team’s home fields one day down the road. Even so, TIAA Bank Field will continue to do for now and Aaron Murray is all for it.
