Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes junior offensive tackle Bo Hughley is committed to the University of Georgia. The 6-foot-7, 290-pound offensive tackle announced early on Friday morning that he intends to play for Kirby Smart in Athens in two years.

Hughley knew Georgia was the place for him not long after Sept. 1.

“As soon as school was able to talk to me, Georgia was the first school I talked to consistently,” Hughley said. “They were the only school that stayed on me. Georgia has tried to talk to me every day. They made a way…I made my mind up a week after we were able to talk to coaches.”

Matt Luke has been one of the people on the phone with Hughley since midnight on Sept. 1.

“Coach (Matt) Luke told me he likes my work ethic,” Hughley said. “He told me there are things I can work on. I’m still in high school and we’re going to get that together. Everything has been going great. I feel like that’s the strongest relationship that I have with a college coach.”

Luke and the rest of the Georgia staff have showcased their ability to develop players. That stood on one of Hughley’s unofficial visits over the summer.

“I went there one day and before we did anything, they were having practice and I was watching coach teach them and it was great,” Hughley said. “I watched a kid that I played against last year, he’s up there and he’s way better than he was when he was down here.”

Hughley has been to Georgia’s campus six times. He attended back-to-back games in Athens last two weeks.

The fan base quickly made an impression on Hughley.

“The fan base was the best out of all the games I’ve been to,” Hughley said. “We went in the locker room after the game and the coaches were excited to see me. That really showed some love.”

Who were the finalists for Bo Hughley?

For Hughley, his decision came down to Georgia and Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets were Hughley’s first offer on June 19, 2020.

Hughley had a desire to stay near home.

“The top two schools were Georgia Tech and Georgia,” Hughley said. “Georgia Tech was high on the board… I didn’t want to go too far away from home, but I didn’t want to stay at home.”

Hughley plans on taking his officials during his senior year but envisions himself locked in with Georgia barring a coaching change.
