Mobile (Ala.) Faith Academy linebacker Shemar James has been committed to Florida since June, but he was spotted at another SEC school on Saturday.

James, the No. 107 overall prospect in the 2022 On300 rankings, was seen at Georgia amid a massive visitors’ weekend for the top-ranked Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs, along with Alabama, were among the handful of schools that James spurned in June to commit to the Gators. But they haven’t given up on him, and getting him on campus among some of the best 2022 and 2023 prospects in the country surely doesn’t hurt in their pursuit of him.

Shemar James still hears from Alabama and Georgia

In an interview with On3’s Jeremy Johnson a little over two weeks ago, James said he still consistently hears from the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide, with both still hoping to flip him before the early signing period. He said he isn’t planning to decommit, but had yet to see Athens and planned a visit.

“I’m not thinking about that (decommitting) right now,” he told Johnson. “I’m just enjoying the moment. I feel like I’ve worked hard to have this opportunity to pick and choose what school is best for me and what’s best for me. It’s good. I’ve been watching a lot of film with the coaches and stuff.”

The Tide have an eye-popping 14 players in the On300 rankings committed so far, but just one linebacker. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, have 10 commits of their own in the rankings, including a pair of linebackers. But Kirby Smart’s defense relies heavily on great ‘backer play, and adding another of James’ caliber would simply be icing on the cake.

Georgia hosting huge list of visitors

Along with James, Georgia will be hosting a number of elite 2022 and 2023 prospects for Saturday’s game against No. 11 Kentucky. Among them are top-100 wide receiver Luther Burden, who will make his commitment next Tuesday. Five-star defensive lineman and USC commit Mykel Williams is also expected to be in Athens, as is top-100 defensive back Tre’Quon Fegans.

And top among the group is the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2022 class, EDGE Marvin Jones Jr. Having that much talent on campus is just another example of what Smart and Co. are trying to sell to recruits: to be the best, play with the best.
