The Georgia Bulldogs shared big news by revealing the names of seven incoming transfer players for the 2022-23 basketball season on Monday. The Bulldogs will have seven new players on their team via the transfer portal this year, a few less than last season’s additions.

“The group includes a fifth-year player (Mardrez McBride from North Texas), a senior (Terry Roberts from Bradley), three juniors (Frank Anselem from Syracuse, Justin Hill from Longwood and Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe from Oklahoma State), a sophomore (Jusaun Holt from Alabama) and a true freshman (KyeRon Lindsay from Denton, Texas). Because of eligibility extensions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Anselem, Hill, Holt, Moncrieffe and Roberts could play one more season than their classifications would traditionally indicate,” read Georgia’s official statement.

Five of the incoming transfers have plenty of experience winning that they’re bringing with them, having played in the NCAA Tournament in either 2021 or 2022. The influx of talent is something that new head coach Mike White will rely on to improve from last year’s disappointing 6-26 season.

“We’re very excited about this group of signees,” said White. “These young men represent different positions and skill sets individually. Collectively, they represent versatility and an excitement to be at Georgia. All of these young men have been a part of winning at at least one spot along their journey.”

The Bulldogs made waves at the end of last season with their hiring of Florida’s head coach away from the Gators. In White’s seven seasons with Florida, the Gators had been an ever-present name in the NCAA Tournament. In his final season, Florida finished with a 19-13 record and a loss to Texas A&M in the SEC Tournament. Florida made four straight tournaments before this season, from 2017-2021, and the downwards turn for White’s team appeared to be another factor in his decision to move on from the school.

In each of their four appearances in the NCAA Tournament during that time, Florida won at least one game, making them one of just six teams in the nation to do so. In 2017, Florida entered the tournament as a No. 4 seed and advanced to the Elite Eight before falling to a fellow SEC team in South Carolina.
