Kirby Smart refuses to name top Athens pizza place for hilarious reason
It’s spring practice time for head coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs, looking to defend their national championship. Plenty of players will not return due to taking a step to the NFL draft but plenty of stars, such as quarterback Stetson Bennett, will remain in Athens this season.
Even with football season on the horizon, Smart still had time to have some fun with the media on Tuesday. When asked to name his top three pizza places in Athens, he refused to give an answer for a hilarious reason. Turns out, he’s not getting pizza, he’s more of a meatball sub kind of guy.
“Man, if I do that, I’d be throwing someone under the bus,” Smart said. “My kids can do that. Andrew is out there somewhere, he could tell you flat out. I usually get the subs, I get the meatball subs when it’s a pizza place. I eat the leftover pizza the kids don’t eat and you can tell.”

According to Yelp, the three highest-rated pizza places in town are D.P. Dough, Automatic Pizza, and Ted’s Most Best. However, Smart wisely decided to not take any sides on what appears to now be a great debate between pizza places in Athens, GA.

Kirby Smart calls out Stetson Bennett after practice
Kirby Smart decided to call out Stetson Bennett when talking about the leadership aspect. He said a recent practice over the weekend did not meet up to expectations and tried to find a reason as to why. When not being able to come up with a conclusion, Smart said quarterbacks need to lead in those types of scenarios.
“I think he can grow,” said Smart. “He took a lot of the one reps from whatever point it was last year moving forward. In terms of leadership, we’re still working on that. We’re not where we need to be in terms of leadership, guys challenging guys. I thought it was really good on Saturday in terms of leadership and then things got a little tough out there today.
“Whether you call it Tuesday, two days off. I can’t say it was hot, it felt mighty good to me but we didn’t have the level of practice I would expect. You would think whether it’s the quarterback, the receiver, whoever the leaders are, they’re going to stand up and push the guys and we probably didn’t get what we wanted out of that today. I was disappointed in practice.”
