There are a lot of things that Kirby Smart has done at Georgia to make the program into one of college football’s best programs in the country. Part of that is instilling a culture in his own image. He’ll tell you, part of that culture is to not talk trash to opponents. It can make players lose their focus, and he’d rather see them focus on themselves.

While speaking at a press conference, Kirby Smart was asked how he handles players talking trash to each other.

“All I worry about is our guys’ behavior, and we don’t want to represent that at all,” Kirby Smart said. “I think we’ve done a really good job here at Georgia of representing our university the right way.”

“We play with our helmets and we don’t talk to the other team and, you know, disappointed in any player that would talk to somebody on the other team. And we don’t condone it. So, something that we need to get fixed, and some teams you play do that more than others.”

Kirby Smart was clearly disappointed with players on Georgia getting into verbal spats with Missouri players. It goes against the culture that Smart wants his team to play with.

“And some teams are, you know, from the same line of thinking as yourself in terms of not talking after plays and not talking before games. I’m not saying that Missouri is, I am saying that I’m going to worry about how our guys behave and that’s not what we want.”

Next up for Georgia is a rivalry game against Auburn, which could test the team’s ability to not talk trash to the opposing Tigers.

Kirby Smart’s emotions in a comeback win

Georgia wasn’t supposed to struggle with Missouri, but they did in come from behind fashion. For Kirby Smart, it was an emotional win.

“Absolutely there’s a lot of emotions.” Kirby Smart said. “It’s hard in the SEC, guys. I’ve been in this league a long time and there’s nothing easy about the SEC. When you go on the road in the SEC, you better be prepared.”
