Kirby Smart catches flack for his decisions when it comes to the Georgia quarterback position. In the past, it was choosing between Jake Fromm and Justin Field. Now, it’s Stetson Bennett or J.T. Daniels.

Against Alabama, many were waiting for Daniels to relieve Bennett — hoping to spark a Georgia comeback. However, Smart opted to stick with the quarterback that got Georgia to the SEC Championship.

Following their first loss of the season, Smart was asked whether he’s thinking about a switch at quarterback entering the College Football Playoff.

“We have a decision to make every week at every position, but I have the utmost confidence in Stetson Bennett,” stated Smart. “I think he did some really nice things tonight. We go and reevaluate everything all the time, but he played well. It’s a tough environment we put him in defensively and didn’t — we have to be able to run the ball and have a little bit of semblance of balance, and I felt like there was times tonight where we were getting into a scoring contest because our defense didn’t get stops. And you don’t want to have to do that.

“But I certainly have a lot of confidence in Stetson, and I have a lot of confidence in J.T. too.”

As Kirby Smart attempts to win a national championship, he can’t afford to make the wrong decision at quarterback. If it cost the Bulldogs a title, everything will have been for naught for Georgia.

Former Georgia defensive back calls out Kirby Smart quarterback decision

After the disappointing loss, it was the singular thought on every Georgia fans’ mind. Heck, even former players are wondering — former Bulldogs defensive back Davin Bellamy took to Twitter to pan Smart’s decision.

“Stetson hasn’t played terrible, but when you play Bama you need a more of prototypical QB that can make all the throws,” tweeted Bellamy. “Cause you’re not running the ball. A game manger not going to cut it.”

Moreover, Bellamy referenced an older tweet where he clamored for Daniels to get more work. “Remember the J.T. Daniels tweet?” wrote Bellamy.

“Should we work JT Daniels back into the rotation?, tweeted Bellamy, back in October. “We may need him for the long run!”

Whether he’s Nostradamus or part of Bulldogs faithful who wants a championship, it’s tough to argue with Bellamy. If Georgia misses out of their chance at a title, Kirby Smart will have to answer some tough questions regarding his quarterbacks.
