Rece Davis fights for Georgia to be higher in rankings for College Football Playoff
Rece Davis still thinks Georgia should be several spots higher than they were in the latest rankings for the CFP.
Davis made that case during the ‘College GameDay Podcast’. With the Bulldogs being at No. 7 in the fourth rankings earlier this week, he had them at No. 4. That would be behind only Oregon, Ohio State, and Texas in the top three.
“I’ve got Georgia at number four,” said Davis.
Davis almost had the ‘Dawgs at No. 3 considering they themselves beat Texas by two scores on the road in the regular season. However, their other outings, including their two losses, held them back the one slot for the time being. That should then change regardless with whoever Georgia plays next weekend in the SEC Championship.
“I considered putting Georgia at number three because of the way they handled Texas,” said Davis. “But Texas, you know, got whipped by an excellent Georgia team. Other than that, while Texas has had a far easier schedule than Georgia? I mean, that’s not close. But they also haven’t really turned in any stinkers, you know. Georgia, you know, turned in a stinker at Ole Miss, good team. But kind of did at Kentucky too and did for two and a half quarters at Alabama too.”

“I ended up leaving them at four and, you know, that’ll sort itself out either way because Texas will either win against Texas A&M, play them in the SEC Championship or they won’t and then it’ll be obvious,” Davis said.
Again, Georgia, like all teams still playing for the playoff, isn’t done yet with their resumé. They’ll have their chance to get to double-digit wins tonight in the season finale when they host a quality opponent in Georgia Tech. They’ll then have the conference title game against one of either Texas or Texas A&M to determine whether they’d get a bye or where they’d be as an at-large seed in the bracket.
In other words, Georgia will figure itself out within the context of the College Football Playoff. They may be too low for Davis right now but still have their chances to move up where he sees them in that top-four or so for the field.
