Nolan Smith has big shoes to fill next season, but the added pressure could elevate the star Georgia linebacker into the forefront of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Before the season truly gets going, Mike Renner of Pro Football Focus revealed the Tennessee Titans would be his perfect fit for Smith at the next level.

“The Titans have to be figuring out ways to get out of Bud Dupree’s contract after he earned a 55.3 overall grade last season. Smith has the kind of juice to be a weapon on the stunts and slants the Titans defense runs so much of,” wrote Renner. “He can do that while also setting a hard edge, as indicated by his 90.6 run-defense grade last season.”

This past season was Smith’s best for the Bulldogs, as the star linebacker racked up 55 tackles, 3.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and an interception. In total, Smith accumulated 95 tackles and 8.5 sacks throughout his three seasons with Georgia.

With so much talent littered throughout the Georgia defense, Smith still found a way to stand out. As Georgia looks to win another title, having Smith back in the fold will be crucial for 2022.

At the next level, Nolan Smith will bring a bevy of intangibles highly-regarded by NFL teams. Whether it’s the Tennessee Titans or another franchise, his services will be in-demand come the 2023 NFL Draft.

The best NFL fit for Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter in 2023 NFL Draft

Moreover, Kirby Smart will be relying on Georgia defensive lineman and budding star Jalen Carter throughout Georgia’s defense of their title. While looking ahead to the 2023 NFL DraftRenner of also revealed the best fit for Smith’ teammate as it pertains to the NFL.

“Matt Eberflus needs his 3-technique. So much so that they nearly used all their available cap space this offseason to sign Larry Ogunjobi,” began Renner. “Well, the 2023 draft features a 3-technique who is even better than Ogunjobi and could very well be the best we’ve seen in our eight years of grading at PFF.

“It was Carter who led all FBS defensive tackles — and Georgia defenders — with a 90.0 pass-rushing grade last season. That’s unheard of for a true sophomore at the position.”

If Carter makes his way to Chicago, he could be a transformative piece for the Bears defense. After trading away Khalil Mack to the Los Angeles Chargers, the Bears will be looking for one — and Carter would be perfect.

Nevertheless, there’s plenty of time between now and the 2023 NFL Draft — but Jalen Carter will remain high on draft boards if he continues his progression.
