Georgia starting quarterback JT Daniels has missed three consecutive games with a lat injury. In his place, Stetson Bennett has stepped into a bigger role on Georgia’s offense. Bennett has impressed some experts while leading Georgia’s offense this year, including Tim Tebow.

Tebow: Bennett has gotten a lot better for Georgia

Bennett has appeared in five games this season for Georgia. On the year, he has completed 43 of 62 passes for 746 yards, eight touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also has 126 rushing yards on 16 attempts. Tebow has seen great growth from Bennett and Georgia’s offense in recent weeks.

“They’ve gotten better every single week and Stetson’s gotten better now that the job has been his since JT has been hurt,” Tebow said of Bennett and Georgia’s offense. “He’s been so efficient and I know that he doesn’t necessarily make all the ‘wow’ plays, but he’s making every play he’s supposed to and he’s consistent with it.

“By the way, he’s also a better athlete than most people give him credit for. Just the other week on one of his scrambles, he ran 20 miles per hour. That’s pretty fast and not a lot of people give him credit for that. That was something that was even a little shocking for me. But he’s a good athlete. I think he’s getting better at throwing the ball down the field and there’s also a little bit of an it factor with him. He’s kind of just that, he has a little bit of something that you just can’t really teach. And I really like that about him.”

Daniels is going to take pregame warmups against Kentucky on Saturday. As was the case last week, the team will assess his readiness at that time. If Daniels can’t go, Bennett will get another start in a very intriguing matchup with Kentucky.

“Again, JT is coming off of the lat injury,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said. “We’re going to see where he is pregame. He was able to practice more this week than he has in the past.”

Bennett got his first collegiate action in 2019, completing 20 of his 27 passes for 260 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Last season, Bennett was 86 of 155 for 1,179 yards, eight touchdowns, and six interceptions. Georgia and Kentucky kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET.
