Four-star athlete Mikal Harrison-Pilot of Temple (TX) High announced his commitment to Houston Saturday afternoon.

The 6-foot, 195 pounder chose the Cougars over TCU, Texas, and Oklahoma.

Harrison-Pilot on why he chose Houston

“What they did with Tank Dell is something I can see me doing and my dad played there. I have a lot of family down there, and they treat me like a family. They like to get the ball to their playmakers and I feel like I can make a huge impact the moment I step on campus. Houston has always been my home, I’m always down there, and they’ve been recruiting me for a long time.”

Relationship with coaching staff

“I’m close with coach shorts, the wide receiver coach. He has shown me the ways of how he will use me like he did with Tank Dell putting me everywhere to get the ball in my hands fast and what he has done with true freshman Matt Golden.”

What it means to stay home

“It means a lot because I have so much love for the city and also because I have lots of family down here.  I’m also ”finishing what was started by my dad” and I want to continue on that legacy.”

Mikal Harrison-Pilot Scouting Summary

“Do-it-all player that has played quarterback, running back, wide receiver and safety over his three seasons at Temple High School. Measured around 5-foot-11.5, 185 pounds with a 6-foot-4 wing-span prior to his senior season. A three-sport athlete who plays baseball and also ran 11.02 in the 100 meters and 21.63 in the 200 meters in 2021. Fluidity and smoothness in his movements pops off the tape. An easy mover with looseness in his hips. Has solid ball skills as a pass catcher and flashes the ability to high point the football. Shows his physicality when coming downhill in the run game and as a ball carrier. Needs to develop his footwork and hand placement in coverage. Has all the physical tools to play offense or defense at the next level but will need to refine his technical skills once he lands on either side of the ball.”

Harrison-Pilot ranks as the No. 124 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No. 4 athlete and the No. 24 player in the state of Texas.
