Jaland Lowe injury update: Kentucky guard re-injures shoulder in practice

News surrounding Kentucky basketball is not getting any better in recent days. Following the loss to Louisville on Tuesday, there is now an injury situation regarding point guard Jaland Lowe. He was already dealing with a shoulder problem but re-injured it during Thursday’s practice.
“Jaland Lowe re-injured his shoulder today in practice according to @JackPilgrimKSR,” KSR‘s Matt Jones said via X. “Jack has more details on KSR+ but apparently it was popped back into place.”
As Jones mentioned, the update comes from Jack Pilgrim of On3 | Rivals’ KSR. To read more on the whole situation, you can read the full thing from KSBoard here.
Lowe’s injury predates the season. He did not play in the opener against Nicholls before making his Kentucky debut in the Valparaiso win. Whether or not Lowe would be able to play against Louisville was a storyline heading in, eventually coming off the bench for the Wildcats.
He wound up playing 30 minutes, scoring nine points and assisting on five baskets. Lowe also brought in a rebound. Certainly not the best night of his career and one everyone in Big Blue Nation is attempting to move on from quickly.

Mark Pope already spoke to the media on Thursday, meaning he will not provide an update on Lowe in the near future. Next time he does, you know a question about his status will be revealed.
Lowe came to Lexington out of the NCAA transfer portal this offseason. He previously played for the Pittsburgh Panthers. Plenty of programs were interested in his services after averaging 16.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists last season. Kentucky is hoping for the same kind of production but knows getting healthy is a top priority.
More on upcoming schedule for Kentucky after Louisville loss
Kentucky is back on the court Friday night. Eastern Illinois comes to Rupp Arena, a game UK expects to win, no matter who is available. Playing Lowe would be nice but certainly not a requirement. Especially for a hungry team, looking to get back on the right track.
From there, getting Lowe back in the lineup is something Pope will want. Kentucky heads up to New York City for the Champions Classic, facing the Michigan State Spartans inside Madison Square Garden. Dec. 2 vs. North Carolina begins a tough stretch of nonconference games, where opponents such as Gonzaga, Indiana, and St. John’s pop up on the schedule.
