Jaland Lowe injury update: New information emerges on Kentucky guard's potential need for surgery

Jaland Lowe reportedly re-injured his shoulder, which he had hurt once already four weeks ago in a public scrimmage for the team, during Kentucky’s practice on Wednesday. Now, everything is being considered regarding the health of the Wildcats’ point guard.
Per Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio, all options are on the table for how the program is going about this injury and his recovery from it. Kentucky and Lowe are looking at multiple options today, whether it be something that allows him to return in the short-term or that could keep him out longer-term with a surgery on it.
“Source tells KSR that Jaland Lowe injury could lead to surgery but also has other options that would potentially allow him to play,” Jones tweeted on Friday morning. “UK and Lowe will be working through which decision is best path throughout the day.”
KSR’s Jack Pilgrim has posted an update of his own this morning on what this process is currently looking like for Lowe. Again, the day after the injury, it sounds as though anything is on the table in how the Wildcats could go about resolving this for their transfer at point guard.
Per KSR, Lowe went down with this latest injury to his right shoulder late in practice for UK on Thursday. It was supposedly very similar to the original injury, with the shoulder needing to be popped back into place. He suffered the initial injury back in October during the Blue-White Game. That cost him the duration of the exhibition season as he recovered, and held him out for the opener.

A transfer this offseason from Pittsburgh, Lowe is one of the more anticipated additions and pieces for this season’s team in Lexington. Lowe voted as Preseason All-SEC Third Team and was part of the Top 20 Watch List for the Bob Cousy Award. He showed that already in just his two appearances off the bench over the last week for the Wildcats.
In those games, Lowe was averaging 7.5 points (26.7% FG and 28.6% 3PT), 5.0 assists, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.0 steals in the Wildcats’ win over Valparaiso and their loss earlier this week at Louisville. Mark Pope had said as recently as yesterday afternoon that Lowe was “fine” and in “good shape” since his return from the injury, despite some soreness.
It’s unknown how severe this second instance is as compared to the first. But, with it now having happened twice in the span of a month, and it having already cost him three games coming into this season and maybe more now, Lowe’s future is in question.
