Former Kentucky edge rusher Josh Allen has been named the Jacksonville Jaguars non-QB MVP by NFL.com.

Not to be confused with the former Wyoming quarterback and current Buffalo Bills star, Josh Allen was a wrecking ball at Kentucky before becoming a first-round pick. During his time with Jacksonville, Allen has been one of the best edge rushers in the NFL. He’s just struggled to get credit for his talent playing for one of the worst teams in football during that time. Now, he’s receiving recognition as one of the best players in the league by NFL.com, as they named him the team’s non-QB MVP.

The point of the experiment by NFL.com is to highlight key players who might be overlooked when you talk about the best on their teams. After all, the quarterbacks get all the love come award season. Josh Allen proved to be the most important non-QB on Jacksonville.

“Allen earned a Pro Bowl bid as a rookie in 2019, when he generated 10.5 sacks before a knee injury derailed his 2020 season,” writes Kevin Patra. “With little help in Jacksonville, Allen has struggled to regain consistent form, but he has the most potential to bounce back under defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell. The addition of No. 1 overall pick Travon Walker could help to free up Allen to harass the quarterback with a quick first step that can blow past single blocks.”

If the Jaguars are going to have success, they need Josh Allen to be a key piece of the puzzle. He represents defensive leadership, production, and havoc at his best.

“If the Jags were to do the improbable and go from worst to first under Doug Pederson, Allen would have as big a role to play as anyone not named Trevor Lawrence.
